| Programm | RADIOPHONIC MONDAYS FEATURES ARTISTS JOANNA BAILIE (UK/DE) AND SOFIA SCHEPS (UY) ... and the dreams that you dare to dream ... dreamlike, with blurred sound images and a delusive sense of time, Joanna Bailie's music draws the listener into a succumbing vortex in which the self surrenders to the composer's story telling. Here, technological applications are as much narrative figures as places captured by field recordings, objects and instrumental groups made to sound, and music brought in from afar. "Symphony-Street-Souvenir," "Artificial Environments" and "Trains" are taken from the portrait CD "Artificial Environents," NMC Recordings, recorded by the Plus-Minus Ensemble, under the direction of Mark Knoop. "Dissolve" and "A giant creeps out of a keyhole" are audiovisual works, the full version with video can be viewed here. The working methods of the young Uruguayan composer Sofía Scheps are complex, working off other artists material as the poetry of Idea Vilariño in "RecordIdea" or the music of composer Jorge Lazaroff and her own composition "La Vide Moderna“ in the featured composition "RadioEfe(Maria Salomea)“. Here Scheps de- and reconstructs, fragments, rhythmizes and de-rhythmizes carefully selected musical material of which she writes: „I sought to generate irregularities and interruptions that would reveal the artifice of digital production: very small and hard cuts of the material, sounds that break, spatializations, and generation of synthetic sounds. „Tenesunacufeno“ is a rather personal composition, in which the composer addresses her suffering from Tinnitus. Scheps remarks „The materials of this piece circle around 6000Hz and try to refer to what I hear of my tinnitus throughout the day. This materials coexist with recordings made with hydrophones on the shore of the beach, reminding me of the inevitable earwashes I have to deal with every now and then…“ In „Virtualidad Real“ Scheps works with continuous materials, and resorting to hard editing and hard panning techniques, Real Virtuality is a piece that brings to the forefront the physical presence of amplification systems, exposing binaural perception to unnatural and and extra-ordinary situations.
