| Description | The first journey and premiere of the work ‘puraná’ by Zurich-based composer Carles Guisado revolved around Swiss composers or composers living in Switzerland. In the current programme, we return to the roots of this Spanish composer, showing the way to paradise and thus placing it in a new light.Carles Guisado (*1978) - Puraná, String Quartet No. 1 (2023)A mysteriously meandering river that closes in a circle at the end and begins to bubble: this legendary river originates in the centuries-old Indian Puranas (literally: ‘old stories’) and, according to legend, leads to the gates of paradise. In a gentle current, diamond-like symmetries swim side by side and unite in the confusing pull of the water.Raquel García-Tomás (*1984) - così mostraste a lei i vivi ardori miei‘[...] così mostraste a lei i vivi ardori miei [...]’ is inspired by Claudio Monteverdi's madrigal ‘Sfogava con le stelle’. The string quartet is organic and fluctuating, based on the constant transformation of the original work, which is either expanded or distorted. This transformation is not without crystalline moments in which the original polyphony appears as a fleeting reminiscence.Francisco Coll (born 1985) – Cantos (2017/2022)Written for the Casal Quartet, this work is based on one of his ‘Hyperludes’ for solo violin. It is both introverted and sensual. Each phrase develops within a single breath and echoes the human voice.Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) - String Quartet No. 3, 5th movement: ModeratoMaria Camahort - noûs Knowing was, bearing how (He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how)Camahort's work refers to Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3 and is conceived as an interplay with it. Her work aims to be a counterpoint and complement to the defeatist tone of Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3, drawing inspiration from the philosophy of Viktor E. Frankl (Holocaust survivor), particularly his book Man's Search for Meaning. A Psychologist Experiences the Concentration Camp." |
