| Biography | SELECTED COMPOSER FOR THE 2021 SONIC MATTER_LISTENING LOUNGE Fulya Uçanok is an Istanbul-based electroacoustic musician and pianist; composing, improvising and playing. Born in Turkey, she studied Eurogenetic classical music under piano at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory and completed her master’s in Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), Advanced Studies in Music (MİAM). Later she went to Indonesia/Bali with the scholarship Darmasiswa, studying Balinese “Gender Wayang” musical tradition and its various incarnations within entangled socio-cultural networks; learning and experiencing different approaches to musicking. Upon her return, she gathered her musical interests under the umbrella of electroacoustics. She began her doctoral studies at İTÜ MİAM, Sonic Arts Department focusing on electroacoustic music composition and performance. She is a member of klank.ist ensemble, composer/performers interested in free improvisation and interdisciplinary collaborations. She initiated Soundinit with Serkan Sevilgen, an initiative aiming to bring sound-related artists and researchers together; organizing soundwalks and other sound-based events. Her current interests include, response-able sounding practices with humans and more-than-humans, practices of material agency with instruments, accessibility without popularization, and spaces of heterogeneous multivalences within the medium of electroacoustic music aesthetics, composition and performance practices. |
