Morton Feldman: «palais de mari» (1986) for piano – – –
On two evenings, just in time for an aperitif, the festival centre will be transformed into a bar. The menu includes a selection from the vast universe of contemporary piano music, a conversation with the pianists and, of course, the perfect drink. With «palais de mari», the piano bar is celebrating one of the classics among 20th century composers: the last of over 30 of composer Morton Feldman's works for solo piano, interpreted by Gilles Grimaître. Bringing to mind the excavations of a Mesopotamian palace that's been destroyed and looted over the centuries, most recently during the Syrian civil war, it slowly unfolds as its sounds move along the palace foundations, step by step imagining what was once there.
