MAD FREQUENCIES

The Madness Ensemble is a supergroup in contemporary experimental music. It is a twelve-member, international collective of subversive individualists and is in principle in itself a modular festival that is in a constant process of metamorphosis. Its #workoutjazz marathons overlap different styles and disciplines, enabling it to create encounters that would otherwise rarely take place. Here, new music meets free improvisation meets noise meets performance meets visual art - and all this happens at an extremely fast pace and is full of surprises. The Madness Ensemble has many faces - at least as many as it has artists. It offers video scores, concept works, game pieces – this Ensemble is willing to improvise on salad bowls, elect a washing machine as its conductor, and divide itself into different sub-formations. And at the SONIC MATTER Festival, it will temporarily include the Brazilian drummer, singer and high-energy specialist Mariá Portugal in its midst. The programme for 4 December is simply SONIC MADNESS!
