| Description | Vanessà Heer & Caroline Ann Baur: «along liquid purrs» (2022) Developed within a residency at UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch organized by the theatre project Anthropos Ex, the composition «along liquid purrs» was initially presented in a forest next to a dried-out creek, inviting the audience to a collective listening situation. The composition consists of water sounds collected from within one square mile of the biosphere, also involving sounds of insects and various organisms next to the creek. Vanessà Heer and Caroline Ann Baur varied the field recordings in subtle modulations for their quadrophonic installation. Even though the partly synthetic-sounding, almost dancing sounds from flowing to rushing streams of creeks resonate with the situational environment, the almost dried-up stream of a creek suddenly appears surreal. The temporal shift is reminiscent of something that was once flurishing, not very long ago. At the same time, the sounds have a meditative, calming character as well as, through the modulations, they remind us of the virtuality of the situation and bring with it a slightly uncanny feeling. Thanks to the group Anthropos Ex, for the invitation and the great organization, to Marcus Maeder for his valuable knowledge he shared and practiced with us, and of course to the other participants for their sharing, their attentive listening and most of all for creating together this tender and living space, filled with warmth, interest, and care. |
