| Program | «A Third hour ear worm» (2022) |
| Description | How can a story that is neither recorded in books nor exhaustively documented be given the space it needs? Where to find its voices? How can it re-shape our idea of what once was? Listening at Pungwe goes in search of such unrecorded parts of history in archives of various forms: the duo find it in exchanges with people; in rites and objects that have been passed on; and in sound archives. Their multimedia works make these finds accessible and demand not to simply be received them, but to dive into their narratives through listening. «Pungwe can be streamed as a commune of people that are ‹woke›, referring to wakefulness as an act of mourning, morning used adjectivally, anticipating sun rise as an emancipatory symbol. A gathering of this form was known as Pungwe (shona word for vigil), during Zimbabwe’s armed struggle of colonial resistance. It was mediated through mbira music rituals.» – Listening at Pungwe Cooperation: Rote Fabrik Zürich |
